Zahara Schatz to Exhibit at Museum

An exhibition by Zahara Schatz will open Tuesday at the Art Museum, about 20 paintings being included in the show. This is Miss Schatz’ second summer in Santa Fe. She is the daughter of the late Professor Boris Schatz, world known sculptor, and of Dr. Olga Schatz, art critic. Dr. Schatz is here for her first season, and will remain with her daughter until after the closing of the exhibit, which will be held Sept. 10-24.

Zahara Schatz was born in Palestine, where her father was the founder of the Bezalel School of Art. She began painting while still a small child under the guidance of Professor Schatz. She studied in Palestine and in Paris at the National Academy of Decorative Art. In Europe, Miss Schatz has exhibited in Palestine and in Paris with other Palestinian artists. She came to the United States with her brother, Bezalel, three years ago, and has since held joint exhibits of her work with that of her father and brother in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco and Santa Fe. A joint exhibit was held here last summer at Arsuna School of fine Arts. Miss Schatz worked with portraits last winter in Tulsa, Okla., and in Cleveland. In the exhibit opening Tuesday, will show a crayon portrait of her mother, one Palestinian painting, a group of decorative works done in Paris; and the remainder of the paintings will be of northern New Mexico scenes.
